The research
What the research shows. 1,000 mg a day, across two meals.
- 36.9%of U.S. adults had optimal glucose levels in 2017–2018 — down from 59.4% in 1999–2000O'Hearn et al. 2022, n=55,081
- 1,000 mgberberine a day in a 3-month placebo-controlled trial of adults with glucose and lipids above the normal rangeZhang et al. 2008, n=116
- 12placebo-controlled trials pooled at 300–1,500 mg/day, with no significant difference in adverse events vs. placeboLiu et al. 2025, n=889

How it works
Your cells sense energy. Berberine supports the signal.

Every mealSupports glucose uptake
Supports GLUT4 transporters moving to the muscle-cell surface.
Across the dayTwo meals, two servings
Berberine clears quickly, so the research split the dose across meals.
Over 12 weeksSupports lipid handling
Supports LDL-receptor expression in liver cells.

What to expect
Week by week. No overnight promises.
Berberine is not a weight-loss shortcut — and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling hype.
-
Weeks 1–2
The foundation phase
Build the habit: two capsules with one meal, two with another. Always with food.
-
Weeks 3–4
First subtle shifts
Some people notice steadier afternoons, fewer post-lunch slumps, and more even energy between meals. Subtle, not dramatic.
-
Weeks 5–8
Momentum builds
Energy after meals feels more predictable. If you wear a glucose monitor, this is where many people start watching their after-meal curves more closely.
-
Weeks 9–12+
The new normal
The human trials measured markers at around 12 weeks. That's the right time to recheck labs with your doctor.

Questions people ask.
I take medication for diabetes, or a GLP-1 medication. Can I take METABOLIC+?
Talk to your doctor before you start — this is the most important answer on this page. Berberine may add to the glucose-lowering effect of insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, GLP-1 medications, and other blood-sugar medications, which can push blood sugar too low. METABOLIC+ is not a substitute for any prescribed medication. Never stop or change a medication to take a supplement. If your doctor approves it, stop and call them if you notice signs of low blood sugar — shakiness, sweating, confusion, or a racing heart.
Can I take it with PCOS Support or another berberine product?
No. UpGrade PCOS Support also contains berberine, and so do many other "metabolic" and "glucose" products. Take one berberine product only — never double up. Check the labels of anything else you take.
Why 1,000 mg split across two meals?
1.0 g a day is the amount used in a 3-month, placebo-controlled trial of 116 adults, and it sits inside the 300–1,500 mg/day range pooled across 12 placebo-controlled trials. Berberine is poorly absorbed and doesn't linger, so the research divided the daily amount across meals. Two capsules with one meal, two with another.
You've probably seen berberine sold with a prescription-drug nickname. Is that what this is?
No. Berberine is a botanical, not a drug, and we don't market it with borrowed nicknames. What it is: the most-studied botanical for healthy glucose metabolism, at the dose used in human research. What it isn't: a weight-loss shortcut or a replacement for anything your doctor prescribed.
Why is there chromium in it?
Chromium is an essential trace mineral that the NIH notes may enhance the action of insulin. Honestly, research on chromium supplements by themselves is mixed. We include 200 mcg a day as a supporting nutrient alongside berberine — not as the reason to buy.
Is it safe? What about side effects?
The most common side effect is digestive — upset stomach or constipation. In a 3-month trial at 1,000 mg a day, five participants reported mild-to-moderate constipation; in a trial at 1,500 mg a day, about a third reported transient digestive effects. That's why METABOLIC+ is always taken with food. Do not use if you are pregnant, nursing, trying to conceive, under 18, or have liver disease. Talk to your doctor first if you take any medication — especially for blood sugar, blood pressure, blood thinning, or cyclosporine.
My blood sugar is already normal. Is this for me?
That's who it's built for. METABOLIC+ supports blood sugar levels already within the normal range and steady energy after meals. Most human studies were done in adults whose numbers were above the normal range, so we don't promise the same magnitude of change — and we won't pretend otherwise.
